Healing Alabama is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with roots in Birmingham, Alabama. We were founded by Laura Wagstaff, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in 2023 as a response to the mental health challenges amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic exposed significant barriers to mental health care in Alabama, including limited access to clinicians, affordability issues, and logistical hurdles like transportation and time constraints.

Laura, an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) at the time, recognized that many individuals were struggling to find and afford therapy, often settling for mismatched or inaccessible options. At the same time, many clinicians faced their own challenges, including the need for supervised practice hours. 

Healing Alabama was created to address these issues by providing a centralized resource where individuals can easily find affordable, accessible mental health care options tailored to their needs. Our organization aims to bridge the gap between therapists and those in need, ensuring that everyone in Alabama has the support they deserve.
